How to Use the Teppanyaki Plate

To use the Teppanyaki plate, first, light your binchotan charcoal and heat your Shichirin. Once it’s hot, place the Teppanyaki plate on top. The plate heats up evenly and stays hot for longer, giving you better results. Simply add oil or butter to start cooking.

Cleaning the Teppanyaki Plate

For easy cleaning, remove any food residue while the plate is still warm using a sharp object. Avoid using steel wool or harsh scrubbing pads. After cooking, use the YAKINIKU BBQ spatulas to clean the plate, and then use our Starter Kit cleaning products to keep everything in top condition.

The Teppanyaki plate is also dishwasher safe for easier cleaning, though for tougher debris, manual cleaning with the BBQ spatulas is recommended.

THE HISTORY OF DE SHICHIRIN

We see the Shichirin popping up in houses as early as the beginning of Japan’s Edo period, around 1603. During this period, they paid with the currency Rin in Japan. Cooking with the table grill was cheap, as you only needed 7 Rin of charcoal to cook a meal on it. 7 Rin is also pronounced “Shichi Rin”.

The use of this grill was initially reserved for the samurais, people of nobility and the wealthier citizens. Later, this changed and the grill was used among all sections of society. The versatile table grill was widely used on festive occasion such as outdoor folk festivals, even in the cold season. To this day, the Shichirin is also used at tea ceremonies, which are very popular in Japan.
